NFL Week 2: Houston Texans vs. Denver Broncos matchup breakdown with ABC13 and ESPN!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Is the cup half empty or half full? That’s the question many Houston Texans fans have been asking after their first-week draw against the Indianapolis Colts. But, DJ Bien-Aime, writer for ESPN Texans, said the team is feeling confident next season in a week two showdown in Denver against the fiercely favorite Broncos.

Watch the breakdown in the video above as DJ and ABC13’s Jonathan Bruce discusses the path to victory over the Broncos, and the first-round status of offensive line Kenyon Green, Atascoita, and Texas A.& M Producer, and coach philosophies of Luffy Smith.

Here are the three things they keep an eye on versus Denver:

1. Which way to operate? The team and GM Nick Caserio overhauled the off-season running game after a franchise — the worst production a year ago. He didn’t really materialize against the ponies. The Texans averaged just 2.8 yards per carry, most notably the pivotal failure to convert a 3 and 1 in overtime which led to Smith kicking the tie. This pregnancy went to veteran Rex Burkhead. We can expect rookie racer Dameon Pierce to receive more shipments this Sunday.

2. Grow Green: Part of the Texas offseason running commitment centered around the 15th overall selection of Kenyon Green. Green missed part of training camp due to injury and surprisingly played in the opening game against Indianapolis. “When you miss a lot of boot camp as a rookie offensive lineman, there comes a period when you have to get back into the groove of things,” said DJ. “In the end he will play as a beginner.” The earlier Green gets into the groove, the better for Houston.

3. SEC Show: The best athletes on the field on Sunday could be the young stars abroad for Houston and Denver. Third overall pick, Derek Stingley Jr. , of Louisiana State University, started in Texas last Sunday and made some notable covers in the coverage. On the flip side, CB Patrick Surtain II, Denver’s first-round pick a year before Alabama, is one of the league’s most promising young defenders. The top two teams will share the All-SEC Honors in 2020, and the number will be a big part of the event on Sunday.
